If you didn’t make it to my talk last week, you really missed out! We discussed loads of strategies to help you be in with the best chance possible of making your changes last for the long term.

I recorded the talk and I’ve uploaded it to YouTube, so, if you’d like to listen now please ask me for the link and I will gladly send it to you.

For today, let’s talk about small things. Small changes and small wins – they’re an important part of getting the results you want to see.

Everyone is looking for the big wins, of course we are. We want to reach our goals and we want to reach them now.

The things which are going to get us those big wins are the changes we make to our diet, exercise and lifestyle. For most of us, relatively small changes will get us a lot closer to our big goals than we realise.

So, instead of being tempted to overhaul your entire life all at once, try to hone in on a couple of small areas. You’ll find it less overwhelming and easier to make into a long lasting routine – and I think you might be surprised at what a big difference these small changes can make.

Some examples might be to prepare most of your own meals rather than relying on take away, ready made or restaurant food.

Maybe you’ll focus on eating enough protein, or drinking enough water. Maybe you need to remember to go to bed at a sensible time. Perhaps you need to focus on getting enough steps in every day.

Then, as you’re going along your way, be ready to notice – and really celebrate – the small wins which usually come along as unexpected side-wins to your main goal.

You might notice that you’ve become consistent with your diet or exercise for the first time in years.

Maybe you’ve forgotten all about snacking.

Maybe you bounce out of bed in the morning without needing 3 coffees to get you going!

Be proud of yourself for the changes you’re making – even if you’re not at the final destination yet, there’s a lot of things you can celebrate along the way.

Often these small wins can help you stay consistent with your routine. They show that what you’re doing is working, and that should give you confidence to carry on. And if we can keep you carrying on consistently, then we have a much bigger change of getting those big wins we’re really striving for.
