When you’re trying to get in shape, you have a few options.
You can go it alone.
You can get advice about what to do.
Or you can get advice about what to do AND be coached through it.
Which works best?
This week, a study was released which shows the benefit of working with a coach or trainer.
They took 52 firefighters and assigned them to one of three groups – a group which recieved exercise programming and combined it with coaching on how to do it properly; a group which received only the programming; and a control group who received no advice at all.
After 12 weeks, the firefighters were re-tested for body composition (fat and muscle mass), strength, fitness, flexibility. The groups who received the exercise programming showed improvements across all areas.
The group who also received the coaching experienced more positive changes, and less negative changes, like injuries.
What does this mean for you?
It means that having a personalised exercise program written for you is more effective than trying to figure it out on your own.
It also means that being coached in how to do the exercises correctly is more effective still, and you’re less likely to get injured.
It means that if you are serious about getting results and you want to achieve them in the most direct way, that coaching is the most effective route.
Sometimes, its the small changes in workout routines and exercise techniques which add up to the biggest improvements. An experienced eye watching over you makes a whole world of difference.
Is it time for help?
If you’re going from exercise class to exercise class, and trying diet after diet, yet seeing precious little results, perhaps its time for some help.
I can look through what you are doing and help find the missing link. It might be something about recovery and lifestyle, it might be something about your diet, or it could be that a few changes to the way you’re exercising makes all the difference.
I can help you either face-to-face, remotely or with a combination of both. If you’re good at putting things into action, one or two appointments could well hand you the key to huge success.
