I’ve recorded this email as a video as well. You can find it on Facebook or Instagram.

Often, I’ll speak to someone who is frustrated at their lack of progress despite eating every ‘superfood’ known to man, taking some very specific supplements and doing a whole host of very particular exercises.

Usually, it’s a case of forgetting the basics.

While super nutritious foods are of course probably good things to eat, and sometimes specific supplements can be very useful too, for 90% of people, sticking with the basics consistently is enough to get you most – if not all – of the way to your goal.

As humans we seem inclined to make things more complicated than they need to be, but if you can focus simply on getting the basics right most of the time, you will be amazed at the results!

Here they are:

Eat real food at least 80% of the time, making sure to get enough protein and not overload on either carbs or fat.

Make sure to stay well hydrated, but don’t drink your calories

Aim to keep your general activity to a maximum – set a target step count, and achieve it.

Do some well-programmed resistance training 3-4 times a week. Start where you are now and move forward from there.

Get at the very least 6 hours of good quality sleep. This alone is often enough to get rid of food cravings!

If you feel inclined, I’d be delighted if you’d like to check in with me regularly to let me know how you’re doing. Sometimes just telling someone what you’re finding hard and what you’re finding easy makes it easier to stay the course, and I’d really like to help. Just send me a message.
