I’ve recorded this email as a video as well. You can find it on Facebook or Instagram.

Weight loss is hard. Making the changes you need to make in order to reach your goals is really difficult, especially when you’re maintaining the changes for the long term.

And while it’s been hard for a lot of reasons while we’ve been stuck at home, it’s still hard now that we’re able to meet up with people again.

So, here are my top five tips for making changes last the distance.

1) Find the goal you WANT to achieve, not the goal you think – or are told – you SHOULD achieve. Working towards something you’re invested in means you’re much more likely to put in the effort you need to, and you’re much more likely to stay the course too.

2) Remember small changes add up more quickly than you’d expect. Plus, research shows that people who make changes gradually tend to keep to them long term. This isn’t true for everyone of course – some people are better taking on a big overhaul – so, know yourself honestly and well enough to decide on the right course of action for you.

3) Remember you make your own choices. I think this is pretty empowering! Of course sometimes it can be very difficult if you’re eating out or buying food on the go. But really, I don’t think goal friendly food choices have ever been easier to find, it just might take a bit of practice.

4) Be prepared for a bit of a rocky journey. Weight loss is never linear, it rarely works as you expect it to. Sometimes you’ll have had a week where you had to make the best of what’s been available, and still lose weight, and other days you’ll be polishing your halo and have not lost a gram!

5) Remember simply turning up is often the most important part. Whether you’re ‘feeling it’ today or not, just continuing to turn up for your workouts or planned meals might well help keep your mind on the bigger picture of WHY you’re putting the effort in.

I hope you’ve found these tips practical and useable – I’d love to know how you get on with them!

Do remember also that having someone to guide you through the weight loss maze can be invaluable – I’d be delighted to help you navigate towards your goals. Let’s have a cup of tea and a chat and see how that might look.
