Stressed?

I’ve recorded this email as a video as well. You can find it  on  Facebook  or  Instagram.

It is important to account for this stress we are under at the minute.

The stress we are under at the minute is different to the stress we are used to, but it is still stress. We are used to being stressed from rushing around too much, but stress can come from a wide variety of different areas. Including ‘strangeness’ and uncertainty.

A lot of people I’ve spoken to lately have commented that it seems harder than ever to make changes […]

It Doesn’t Have To Be All Or Nothing

I’ve recorded this email as a video as well. You can find it  on  Facebook  or  Instagram.

Think back a few months, and remember some times that you said to yourself how easy it would be to make changes to your lifestyle if you had no other commitments and were able to focus just on yourself?

Funny how we find ourselves in pretty much that time right now.

And, actually, it seems harder than ever to make changes!

Have you found yourself lately saying that you’ll ‘get back to’ making changes after all this is over?

Which will […]

It’s Ok To Slow Down. How To Structure Your Day

So, we are stuck at home for a while. And if you’re anything like me it would be all too easy to spend all morning drinking coffee, maybe going for a walk, then spending the rest of the day picking through junk food and watching rubbish on TV, perhaps marking the change from day to evening with a g&t. Or two.

Honestly, obviously aside from what’s going on outside, I’m actually quite enjoying spending more time at home with less time pressure and more opportunities to do new things. But goodness me, it would be […]

Thank you for sending me your questions for how I can help you during this time. I have plenty of ideas now for what I can write for you – but, if you do have any questions you’d like me to answer for you, please do send them over and I will gladly add them to the list!

The first question I’m going to go through is:

How Should I Food Adjust My Intake For My Newly Reduced Activity Levels?

It’s fairly obvious that less activity means you need less food.

This said, I’m not […]

Finding Purpose In This Strange Time

Goodness me, what a time to be alive!

I think it’s important to find a bit of a counter to the, understandable, stress and anxiety we are all feeling.

Having a purpose in life – i.e. having a good reason to get up in the morning – is associated with all sorts of positive health outcomes. But since our normal lives have been restricted, it’s quite possible that your ability to fulfil your purpose has been restricted too. This can leave us feeling lost as well as stressed and anxious about the future.

Let’s face it […]

Too Nervous To Work With A Coach?

It can be really hard to take the first step in changing your lifestyle.

Actually, I think it is one of the hardest parts of the whole journey. Regardless of how uncomfortable you are with where you are right now, making a change to your lifestyle involves taking a step outside of your comfort zone.

When you’re thinking about getting help from a personal trainer, so many thoughts run through your mind.

Am I too unfit? I should do some exercise before I start.

Am I too fat? Maybe I should lose weight before I get in touch.

Is […]

Knee Pain: Is It Your Knee At All?

Achey knees. They can be a real pain and the issue can hang around for years with no particular diagnosis.

It is likely that the pain you’re feeling in your knee is actually not really anything to do with a problem in your knee at all. Fixing knee pain often involves locating and correcting a muscle imbalance or tightness in your hips or your ankles – or both.

There are plenty of postural issues or injuries which could affect your knees, but usually the first thing to consider is whether your hips and/or ankles are able to move through […]

What Exercise To Do Over Christmas – And How To Fit It In

I pretty much never send specific exercise suggestions on this mailing list.

There is so much variation between what each of you as individuals should be doing. What your mobility is like, your fitness and whether you have much experience with exercise all has an impact on the exercises I’d suggest for you. And that’s before we start to think about how much time you have available, what types of exercise you enjoy and how much stress we ought to be adding on to you.

This all said, after my email about not gaining weight over Christmas, quite […]

How Not To Gain Weight Over Christmas

If you’ve done really well all year, it’s too easy to feel anxious about undoing your hard work over Christmas.

Likewise, if you haven’t done so well – it is also easy to feel anxious about increasing the height of the mountain you need to climb in January!

Reality check time.

Remember that months of hard work is not undone by two days of overeating. Of course it’ll put you back for a couple of days, but it will not undo what you have already achieved.

Really, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are going to involve a […]

This is a fantastic dressing to put on some left over beef and turn it into a really fabulous salad.

You could even put the beef and dressing into a few gem lettuce ‘cups’ with some cucumber and tomato. Yummy. If you’re feeling really keen, you could put some toasted sesame seeds on top too.

Did you know fresh herbs are pretty rich in nutrients? Coriander is full of vitamins A, C, E and K, plus various minerals including folate, iron, magnesium and potassium. Lemongrass contains much of the same, while garlic and ginger have antiinflammatory and antiviral effects […]
